EXCHANGE DIRECT AND REGULATION OF BUREAUX DE CHANGE

Early day motion 908, tabled 27 February 2002 by Paul Truswell (Labour). Signed by 29 members.

That this House believes the experience of individual customers of Exchange Direct, who have suffered substantial financial loss through the disappearance of a reputed total of over ú20 million, demonstrates the need for greater regulation of bureaux de change and protection for customers; notes that increased regulation would also be consistent with the Performance and Innovation Unit's June 2000 Report 'Recovering the Proceeds of Crime'; and calls on the Government urgently to review how bureaux de change should be incorporated in the financial regulatory structure.
