CASE OF SAFIYATI HUSSAINI

Early day motion 906, tabled 27 February 2002 by Paul Stinchcombe (Labour). Signed by 39 members.

That this House notes the plight of Safiyati Hussaini, sentenced in Nigeria under strict Islamic Sharia law to execution by stoning for adultery; expresses its concern that she claims she was forced to commit adultery against her will; notes that only one of four possible interpretations of that part of the Sharia law suggests that Miss Hussaini should be executed in this circumstance; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take all possible steps to assist Miss Hussaini.
