FUNDING OF POLITICAL PARTIES

Early day motion 841, tabled 12 February 2002 by Paul Flynn (Labour). Signed by 72 members.

That this House notes that the principle of funding political parties from public funds has been accepted in the allocation of Short money; and believes that reliance on funding from individuals and companies intent on influencing political decisions could be largely eliminated by funding main parties activities in the same manner with moneys allocated by an independent trust on the basis of votes cast in past elections.

Signatures by party: Labour 54, Liberal Democrat 10, Labour/Co-operative 6, Plaid Cymru 2.
