PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSIONER FOR STANDARDS (No. 2)

Early day motion 827, tabled 6 February 2002 by Peter Bottomley (Conservative). Signed by 15 members.

That this House notes with approval the nomination of Philip Mawer as Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, expecting that he, like his predecessors Elizabeth Filkin and Sir Gordon Downey has the standing, ability and personal authority for the role; and that he will bring to it, as they did, the independence, discretion and strength of character required to ensure that the system of Parliamentary self-regulation works and is seen to work effectively; and hopes that he will escape the mistakes, misunderstanding and the appearance of malice which the public suspect has marred some aspects of self-regulation.

Signatures by party: Labour 12, Conservative 2, Plaid Cymru 1.
