ESSEX POLICE DIVING UNIT

Early day motion 818, tabled 6 February 2002 by Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 3 members.

That this House pays tribute to the excellent work carried out by the Essex Police Diving Unit; regrets the proposal to close the unit on the grounds of lack of financial resources; notes that Essex police disbanded its entire motor-cycle fleet and shut its mounted section in previous rounds of spending cuts; believes that the policing of Essex is diminished by the loss of such specialised units; and calls on the Government to increase levels of funding to enable Essex Police to provide the full range of policing activities which the community expects.

Signatures by party: Conservative 2, Liberal Democrat 1.
