FARM TAX

Early day motion 751, tabled 29 January 2002 by Paul Flynn (Labour). Signed by 9 members.

That this House notes that farm subsidies cost the average family ú450 in the year 2000 and that the Consumers' Association reports that a basket of food costs ú85 in the United Kingdom and ú39 in New Zealand following the abolition of farm subsidies there; and calls for an end of the dependency culture of British farming by phasing out subsidies and ending the double whammy suffered by British taxpayers of high prices and a punitive farm tax.

Signatures by party: Labour 7, Labour/Co-operative 1, Liberal Democrat 1.
