FREE NURSING CARE AND THE RETENTION OF FEES

Early day motion 743, tabled 28 January 2002 by Andy Burnham (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 80 members.

That this House welcomes the Government's introduction of free nursing care for residents of nursing homes in England from 1st October 2001; notes with great concern reports that some nursing homes are withholding from individual residents funding received from the public purse intended for them; condemns the opportunistic actions of those home owners in appropriating taxpayers' money intended to help the most vulnerable members of society; and calls on them to take immediate steps to pass it on to the people to whom it rightfully belongs.
