BASIC STATE PENSION (NO. 1)

Early day motion 204, tabled 25 November 2004 by Lord Willetts (Conservative). Signed by 65 members.

That this House welcomes the publication of the Pension Commission's First Report; notes with interest that the Commission found that means-testing within the state pension system both increases complexity and reduces, and in some cases reverses, the incentives to save via pensions; recognises that pension credit extends means-testing to increasing numbers of pensioners; and calls on the Government to reverse the spread of means-testing by increasing the basic state pension by earnings not prices.
