CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU CHARGING OF VOLUNTEERS
Early day motion 1335, tabled 16 May 2002 by Charles Hendry (Conservative). Signed by 86 members.
That this House welcomes the establishment of the Criminal Records Bureau and of legislation aiming to safeguard against unsuitable people registering to work as volunteers; but notes with concern that the costs of carrying out criminal record checks may be passed on to potential new volunteers by Umbrella Registered Bodies e.g. NACYP, Girl Guides; and urges the Government to look again at this matter to ensure volunteering is encouraged, not penalised.
