VALUE OF THE BASIC STATE PENSION

Early day motion 201, tabled 25 November 2004 by Lord Willetts (Conservative). Signed by 83 members.

That this House recognises that the value of the basic state pension has fallen from 35 per cent. of average income in 1996-97 to 30 per cent. in 2001-02; and calls on the Government to increase the basic state pension by earnings not prices, to reverse the spread of means-tested benefits and reverse this trend.
