RAILWAY SYSTEM

Early day motion 23, tabled 6 December 2000 by Elfyn Llwyd (Plaid Cymru). Signed by 10 members.

That this House condemns the consequences of privatisation visible in the present crisis in the railway system; deplores the lack of government action to solve the problem; and expresses a complete lack of confidence in Railtrack's governing board; therefore calls on the Government to return Railtrack to public ownership to ensure that public safety is put before profit; and calls on the Government to introduce legislation to devolve power over the railways in Wales to the National Assembly, and the creation of a separate Welsh public transport authority to create a truly integrated public transport system in Wales.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 4, Plaid Cymru 4, Labour 1, Scottish National Party 1.
