NORTHERN IRELAND FISHING INDUSTRY

Early day motion 1853, tabled 5 November 2002 by Iris Robinson (DUP). Signed by 6 members.

That this House notes the despair with which recent plans to close cod fishing grounds used by Northern Ireland fishermen have been received, where the whole industry is now at risk; calls on the Government to make clear how it intends to respond to the Commission's proposals; and believes that this vital industry will only flourish again when national control of United Kingdom waters is restored and when fishermen and local communities have a genuine role in managing fish stocks.
