CONTINUING EFFECTIVE DIAGNOSIS AND RESEARCH INTO EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME

Early day motion 124, tabled 19 December 2000 by Hilton Dawson (Labour). Signed by 47 members.

That this House expresses utter sympathy with those who suffer from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a group of heritable disorders of connective tissue which can be profoundly disabling and life-threatening; recognises the distress that misdiagnosis over many years can cause; shares the hopes of thousands that research on gene mutations will ultimately lead to treatment; deplores the impending closure of Professor Mike Pope's MRC Connective Tissues Genetic Group at the Institute of Medical Genetics, Cardiff; and calls upon the Government to offer proper funding for this essential work as a matter of urgency.

Signatures by party: Labour 26, Liberal Democrat 14, Labour/Co-operative 3, Conservative 2, Plaid Cymru 2.
