DAILY MAIL ALZHEIMERS CAMPAIGN

Early day motion 57, tabled 7 December 2000 by Helen Clark (Labour). Signed by 61 members.

That this House congratulates the Daily Mail on their new Good Health campaign to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease which will affect one in 50 people between the ages of 65 and 70 years, and one in five by the age of 80 years, bringing misery to those affected and their families; and calls attention to the cost effectiveness in some cases of the drugs Aricept, Exelon and Reminyl, and to the need for health authorities to prescribe on the basis of need and thus end the so-called postcode lottery of treatment.

Signatures by party: Labour 37, Liberal Democrat 17, UUP 3, Labour/Co-operative 2, Conservative 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
