UNIVERSITY TOP-UP FEES (No. 2)

Early day motion 367, tabled 26 February 2001 by Jon Owen Jones (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 44 members.

That this House congratulates the Government on its commitment to rule out the imposition of university top-up fees; and contrasts this position with the policy of the official opposition, which would effectively set up a free market in which universities would be able to charge whatever they could get, thus permitting the more prestigious institutions to become the exclusive preserve of the wealthy.

Signatures by party: Labour 36, Labour/Co-operative 6, Plaid Cymru 2.
