COSTS OF AIDS DRUGS IN AFRICA

Early day motion 334, tabled 13 February 2001 by Hilary Benn (Labour). Signed by 72 members.

That this House notes that of the 25 million people in Africa with HIV and AIDS, only one in a thousand has access to anti-retroviral drugs which could prolong their lives; recognises that this is partly because the prices charged for these drugs by the pharmaceutical companies are far too high for national health systems to afford; and calls on the pharmaceutical companies to reduce the charge they make for these drugs in the interests of saving human life.
