PUBLIC HEALTH DUTY AND THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
Early day motion 331, tabled 12 February 2001 by Adrian Sanders (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 14 members.
That this House notes Petition No. 169/2000 to the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions has been declared admissible on the question of public health; notes that it stems from a long-standing dispute between Mr C. T. Lam of Paignton, Devon, and Torbay Council, regarding the latter's rejection of a duty to protect public health that was upheld by the Court of Appeal; recognises that the issues raised in the petition have implications for all public authorities in the United Kingdom; and therefore wishes to alert Her Majesty's Government to the progress of the petition and the likely ramifications that could flow.
Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 7, Labour 6, Plaid Cymru 1.
