RANK,FEES AND QCS
Early day motion 583, tabled 10 April 2001 by Austin Mitchell (Labour). Signed by 22 members.
That this House considers that the rank of QC is now an outdated anachronism of more value in increasing the fees of recipients than improving justice; and calls on the Lord Chancellor either to abolish the title altogether or to require all QCs to sign contracts with his Department agreeing that any increased income accruing to them consequent on their new rank will be paid to the Legal Aid Fund.
Signatures by party: Labour 20, Labour/Co-operative 2.
