COMMERCIAL LICENCING OF GM CROPS
Early day motion 377, tabled 9 February 2000 by David Heath (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 64 members.
That this House deplores the action of the European Commission in promoting the addition of GM seeds to the Common Catalogue, contrary to the position of the European Parliament; calls on the United Kingdom Government to refuse applications for GM maize to be added to the United Kingdom National Seed List; and considers that no GM varieties should be approved for commercial growing until farm-scale trials are satisfactorily completed and potential threats to the environment can be safely discounted.
