STRATEGY FOR THE NHS

Early day motion 336A1, tabled 7 February 2000 by Helen Jones (Labour). Signed by 21 members.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'welcomes the Labour Government's commitment to increase health spending and deplores current Conservative policy for the National Health Service, which would force hundreds of thousands of sick people to pay for private medical care; notes with concern the recent statements by the honourable Member for Woodspring, that "the biggest problem that we have in the NHS is that it is not a proper market" and that those requiring hip and knee replacements, and hernia and cataract operations, will be forced to pay for private medical care; and calls on the Right honourable Member for Richmond (Yorks) to abandon his plans to destroy the National Health Service.'.
