UNITED NATIONS REFERENDUM FOR WESTERN SAHARA

Early day motion 267, tabled 13 January 2000 by Jeremy Corbyn (Labour). Signed by 123 members.

That this House is deeply concerned that the planned July 2000 United Nations referendum enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination may be postponed again due to the problem posed by over 70,000 appeals presented by Morocco; believes that this could result in the referendum being delayed beyond the United Nations deadline; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to ensure that the parties in the conflict strictly abide by the terms of the signed Houston and UN Appeals agreements.

Signatures by party: Labour 83, Liberal Democrat 24, Labour/Co-operative 7, Plaid Cymru 3, Scottish National Party 3, Conservative 2, Independent Labour 1.
