APPOINTMENTS TO THE SENIOR BAR IN NORTHERN IRELAND

Early day motion 259, tabled 13 January 2000 by Lord Bannside (DUP). Signed by 4 members.

That this House deplores the religious imbalance in the appointments made in December 1999 to the Senior Bar in Northern Ireland; notes that many of the most respected barristers were bypassed and that, of the 12 appointees, 10 were Roman Catholics; and calls on the Lord Chancellor to make a statement and to correct this serious injustice.

Signatures by party: DUP 2, UKUP 1, UUP 1.
