WELSH SCHOOL IN LONDON

Early day motion 172, tabled 8 December 1999 by Julie Morgan (Labour). Signed by 45 members.

That this House notes the forty-one years of service that the Welsh School in London has provided to London's Welsh community; draws the attention of the House to the current financial crisis due to the need for relocation; threatening the closure of the school on 31st March 2000; notes that it has been unable to apply for voluntary-aided status because it would have to follow the English curriculum if such status was granted; and calls upon the authorities in Wales and England to co-operate in finding a solution to the unique funding problems of this very important education facility for Welsh-speaking families living in London.

Signatures by party: Labour 32, Liberal Democrat 6, Labour/Co-operative 4, Plaid Cymru 3.
