AGE ADDITIONS TO THE BASIC STATE PENSION

Early day motion 605, tabled 5 April 2000 by Paul Burstow (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 57 members.

That this House notes that the 25p age addition to the basic state pension at 80 was introduced in 1971 and has been frozen at 25p ever since; further notes that it would be worth ú3.70 if it had been uprated in line with earnings; and calls on the Government to immediately uprate the aged addition as a cost effective way of directing extra help to the poorest of our pensioners.
