BREAKING THE AIR EMBARGO ON IRAQ

Early day motion 603, tabled 5 April 2000 by George Galloway (Labour). Signed by 20 members.

That this House congratulates the Italian MEP Vittorio Sgarchi, the French Catholic priest and filmmaker Jean-Marie Benjamin, the Secretary-General of the Deato Angelico Foundation and two colleagues on breaking the air embargo on Iraq on 3rd April, an embargo which is increasingly seen as immoral, illegal and ineffective; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to begin direct negotiations with the Government of Iraq to agree the simultaneous suspension of sanctions and the re-entry of an agreed genuinely UN team of weapons inspectors into Iraq.

Signatures by party: Labour 20.
