URBAN POST OFFICES IN THE NORTH EAST

Early day motion 502, tabled 9 March 2000 by Stephen Hepburn (Labour). Signed by 20 members.

That this House calls on the Government to support the vital role that the urban sub-post offices play in North Eastern community life; notes the importance of their income from Benefits Agency work, without which they will be under serious threat of closure; and, in view of the closure of community banking facilities, calls upon the Government to accelerate its programmes of computerisation of the Post Office so that local post offices can fill this void.
