PERMANENT DISASTER RELIEF CONTACT POINT (No. 2)

Early day motion 466, tabled 2 March 2000 by Adrian Sanders (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 30 members.

That this House congratulates the relief agencies on their efforts in response to the crisis in Mozambique, but regrets the delay in co-ordinating a response which left many people frustrated and angry that they were unable to offer personal contributions to the disaster relief effort; and calls upon the Government to create in partnership with non-governmental organisations a permanent disaster relief contact point with a publicised emergency hotline phone number where offers of assistance can be logged while a substantive response is co-ordinated.

Signatures by party: Labour 15, Liberal Democrat 11, Labour/Co-operative 4.
