CLOSURE OF FIRST LINE CALLS CENTRES IN SOUTH WALES

Early day motion 824, tabled 8 June 2000 by Alan Williams (Labour). Signed by 22 members.

That this House condemns the deplorable conduct of First Line Mobile Communications, which sacked 2,000 workers in Swansea and Cardiff without any warning; regards their contempt for the well-being of their workforce as being in keeping with nineteenth century worst practice; calls upon the Government and the Welsh Assembly to take all appropriate action to ensure that sacked workers receive redundancy payments; and urges that its conduct in South Wales is borne in mind if ever this firm seeks financial support from public funds.
