RUSSELL GROUP PROPOSALS ON TOP-UP FEES

Early day motion 795, tabled 5 June 2000 by Jon Owen Jones (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 104 members.

That this House condemns proposals by the Russell Group of Universities that students be required to pay up to ú6,000 on top of existing tuition fees; believes that top-up fees would restrict poorer students' access to the leading universities; and calls on the Government to rule out the introduction of top-up fees as a means of funding higher education.
