SECOND HOMES AND COUNCIL TAX

Early day motion 1090, tabled 26 October 2000 by Andrew George (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 32 members.

That this House believes that it is no longer acceptable, under the existing council tax system, to spend ú168 million of taxpayers' money a year subsidising the wealthy to have second homes when there are many thousands of people who live in areas of high second home ownerships who do not even have a decent first home; and calls on the Government to bring forward proposals to deal with this anomaly in the forthcoming rural areas White Paper.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 16, Labour 12, Labour/Co-operative 2, Plaid Cymru 2.
