ASYLUM SEEKERS MARCH

Early day motion 891, tabled 26 June 2000 by Jeremy Corbyn (Labour). Signed by 27 members.

That this House applauds the 7,000 people who marched through London on Saturday 24 June to support asylum rights; is distressed that this significant demonstration received no coverage on major television and newspapers; and call upon Her Majesty's Government to examine the poverty of many asylum seekers in the United Kingdom and to be far more critical of human rights abuses in the countries from which people seek asylum.

Signatures by party: Labour 22, Liberal Democrat 3, Labour/Co-operative 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
