REFORM OF THE HOUSE OF LORDS
Early day motion 178, tabled 13 January 1999 by David Chaytor (Labour). Signed by 26 members.
That this House congratulates the Government on the progress to date in abolishing the voting rights of hereditary peers; looks forward to the early completion of the second stage of reform; firmly believes that the reformed second chamber should ultimately consist entirely of elected members; and calls on the Government to extend the promised referendum on the voting system to include both Houses of Parliament.
Signatures by party: Labour 22, Labour/Co-operative 3, Liberal Democrat 1.
