FUEL COSTS AND THE FISHING INDUSTRY

Early day motion 1142, tabled 13 November 2000 by Alex Salmond (Scottish National Party). Signed by 20 members.

That this House notes that the fishing industry, which is already in a difficult situation due to the shortage of supplies, is being hard-pressed by the rising cost of fuel oil; regrets that the Chancellor in his Pre-Budget Report, having delivered welcome concessions to the road hauliers and farmers, did not act to relieve the cost pressure on the fishing industry; further notes that other European countries have acted to protect their fleet from rising fuel costs; and calls on the Chancellor to do likewise.
