CYPRUS

Early day motion 426, tabled 15 March 1999 by John Taylor (Conservative). Signed by 12 members.

That this House, concerned that progress toward a settlement is being blocked by Greek Cypriot insistence on the fiction that they are the government of all Cyprus, and by their excessive build-up of armaments, calls upon Her Majesty's Government to treat the two peoples of Cyprus and their leaders equally; calls upon the Greek Cypriots to accept the confederation proposal put to them by the Turkish Cypriots; and calls upon the EU to suspend all negotiations on the accession of Cyprus until a joint application is made by the Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots acting together.

Signatures by party: Conservative 5, UUP 4, Labour 3.
