ORGANIC FARMING AND CONTAMINATION FROM GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS

Early day motion 636, tabled 12 May 1999 by Joan Ruddock (Labour). Signed by 53 members.

That this House expresses its alarm at the reported threat to organic farming in Britain posed by potential contamination from growing genetically-modified crops; notes the reports of the study commissioned by the Government on organic farming and gene transfer from genetically-modified crops; further notes the Government's increased support for organic farming and the expanding consumer market in organic food; and calls on the Government to do everything in its power to protect this vital farming sector and the public's ability to choose organic food.
