BODY PIERCING OF CHILDREN

Early day motion 569, tabled 21 April 1999 by Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 29 members.

That this House, noting that tattooing below the age of 18 years is not allowed, expresses concern that there is no lower age limit for body piercing of children; believes that other than for the wearing of ear-rings, the piercing of various part of the anatomy to allow rings or studs to be fitted is contrary to accepted standards of child protection; and calls on the Government to introduce legislation for body piercing similar to that which applies to tattooing.

Signatures by party: Labour 20, Liberal Democrat 8, Conservative 1.
