FLOODING OF CAPEL CELYN
Early day motion 912, tabled 19 October 1999 by Ron Davies (Labour). Signed by 11 members.
That this House recalls the flooding of the Welsh village of Capel Celyn in 1957 by Liverpool Corporation to provide water for its own development; commends the 35 of the then 36 Welsh honourable Members who unsuccessfully opposed the flooding, thereby demonstrating the need for Wales to have its own national voice; and supports the campaign by Cofeb Tryweryn to establish a permanent national monument on the shores of Llyn Tryweryn to commemorate this signficant moment in Welsh history.
Signatures by party: Labour 6, Plaid Cymru 4, Scottish National Party 1.
