MV GREENPEACE

Early day motion 849, tabled 20 July 1999 by Norman Baker (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 18 members.

That this House notes with concern that the Government has acted to ban the MV 'Greenpeace' from United Kingdom waters; regards this move as an undemocratic and draconian reaction to legitimate action by a pressure group; and believes that the Government would be better stopping the shipments from the United Kingdom of weapons-usable nuclear materials rather than harmless vessels attempting to monitor them and that shipments of plutonium constitute a far greater safety risk than any action by a group committed to non-violence.

Signatures by party: Labour 9, Liberal Democrat 8, Plaid Cymru 1.
