ALLIANCE AGAINST COUNTERFEITING AND PIRACY

Early day motion 799, tabled 7 July 1999 by Lembit Öpik (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 30 members.

That this House, recognising the direct cost to UK jobs and the economy of counterfeit and pirate goods, welcomes the launch today of the cross-industry Alliance Against Counterfeiting and Piracy; recognises the contribution established by the RUC that the sale of pirate goods, especially videos, has made to terrorist organisations; and therefore calls on Her Majesty's Government to ensure that the theft of intellectual property is treated no less seriously than other forms of theft.
