DEATH OF CARDINAL BASIL HUME
Early day motion 739, tabled 18 June 1999 by Kevin McNamara (Labour). Signed by 72 members.
That this House mourns the death of Basil, Cardinal Hume, Archbishop of Westminster and spiritual leader and father of the Catholics of England and Wales; and salutes his memory as a firm upholder of human rights at home and abroad, his work for ecumenism but above all his insistence on the dignity of the individual made in the image and likeness of God - may he rest in peace.
Signatures by party: Labour 48, Conservative 12, Liberal Democrat 10, Labour/Co-operative 2.
