FUEL TAX ESCALATOR AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Early day motion 706, tabled 9 June 1999 by Paul Stinchcombe (Labour). Signed by 22 members.

That this House welcomes the fuel tax escalator as an environmental measure; believes that significant reductions in the use of fuel are essential if the United Kingdom is to achieve its carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets; notes that the fuel tax escalator ensures that the polluter pays; is concerned, however, that expensive fuel has a particularly severe impact on people with disabilities, who are often heavily reliant on car travel; and urges the Government to consider implementing an essential user rebate for this group of car users.
