INDONESIA AND MUKHTAR PAKPAHAN

Early day motion 176, tabled 26 June 1997 by Ian Gibson (Labour). Signed by 183 members.

That this House sends its greetings and best wishes to Mukhtar Pakpahan, the imprisoned leader of the independent SBSI trade union in Indonesia, currently suffering from cancer; recalls the previous protests made by honourable Members about his unjust imprisonment and trial on trumped-up charges; urges the Indonesian Government on humanitarian grounds to allow Mukhtar Pakpahan to travel abroad to receive treatment; and urges Her Majesty's Government to convey to the Indonesian authorities the widespread concern in this House about their harsh treatment of this campaigner for democracy and human rights.
