BBC COVERAGE ON PAEDOPHILIA

Early day motion 148, tabled 19 June 1997 by Bill Rammell (Labour). Signed by 14 members.

That this House is shocked by the decision of the BBC to allow a self-confessed paedophile to appear on a day-time entertainment show; rejects the defence that a public entertainment programme is a suitable forum to give the public an insight into a paedophile's psyche; believes that this must have caused offence to many members of the public and particularly to victims of sexual abuse; calls on the Director-General of the BBC to issue an apology; and asks the Government to review the BBC's guidelines on interviews with criminals.

Signatures by party: Labour 12, Liberal Democrat 1, UUP 1.
