AGE DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT ADVERTISING

Early day motion 126, tabled 17 June 1997 by Linda Perham (Labour). Signed by 164 members.

That this House is appalled at the human waste caused by age discrimination in employment; calls on the Government to support the Employment (Age Discrimination in Advertisements) Bill to outlaw arbitrary age limits in job advertising; believes this Bill will begin to change attitudes about older workers and their value and will act as a first step towards wider legislation to combat age discrimination; and considers age discrimination to be both economically wasteful and morally indefensible.
