TAIL-DOCKING OF PIGLETS
Early day motion 95, tabled 9 June 1997 by Chris Mullin (Labour). Signed by 143 members.
That this House is concerned that around 70 per cent. of Britain's piglets are still being tail-docked despite the 1994 law which prohibits the routine tail-docking of piglets; believes that the proper way to prevent tail-biting is not by tail-docking but by keeping piglets in good conditions and in particular by providing them with ample space to prevent overcrowding and sufficient straw to allow them to root and explore; and urges Her Majesty's Government now to enforce the provision in the Welfare of Livestock Regulations 1994 which prohibits the routine tail-docking of piglets.
