MINISTERIAL REPLIES ON DEPLETED URANIUM-TIPPED AMMUNITION

Early day motion 991, tabled 4 November 1999 by Lynne Jones (Labour). Signed by 12 members.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak, wrote to the then Minister of State for Defence, the honourable Member for Newcastle-upon-Tyne North, on 16th July, asking for an explanation for the removal of a paragraph, referring to the presence of uranium from depleted uranium-tipped weaponry in the soil where it strikes, which appeared in an inadvertently enclosed draft, but not the final version, of his letter of 9th July; is appalled that, almost four months later, despite two written reminders and numerous telephone calls, she has yet to receive a response; and calls on the current Minister of State with responsibility for this policy area, the honourable Member for Warley, to provide a full explanation for the deletion of the original paragraph.

Signatures by party: Labour 8, Liberal Democrat 3, Plaid Cymru 1.
