SECTION 28 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1988

Early day motion 966, tabled 1 November 1999 by Maria Fyfe (Labour). Signed by 57 members.

That this House congratulates the Scottish Executive on its proposals to repeal section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988; notes that section 28 has been the cause of a great deal of discrimination against homosexuals and has been especially harmful to youngsters who have been bullied and denied appropriate support at a critical time in their development; and in welcoming this progressive and radical step, asks Her Majesty's Government to bring forward similar measures in England and Wales at the earliest possible opportunity.

Signatures by party: Labour 53, Labour/Co-operative 4.
