REGULATION OF BODY PIERCING OF MINORS

Early day motion 953, tabled 27 October 1999 by Lord Chidgey (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 40 members.

That this House notes the great concern caused, particularly among parents, by children as young as 12 years old undergoing cosmetic body piercing, without effective regulations or the need for consent by a parent or guardian and that surveys among GPs show that a requirement for medical treatment following body piercing is widespread; further notes that the Government recognises that primary legislation should be introduced (12th May, Official Report, column 288); and calls upon the Government to include such legislation in the Queen's Speech.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 25, Labour 13, Conservative 2.
