RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITIES THROUGH LOTTERIES

Early day motion 416, tabled 10 November 1997 by Adrian Sanders (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 16 members.

That this House notes that there has been a 20 per cent. decline in charitable giving since 1993; welcomes the launch of Pronto, a new lottery to raise money for charity; acknowledges that 20 per cent. of the ú1 stake will go to named United Kingdom charities; including the Osteopathic Centre for Children, Mencap, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, the Samaritans and Help the Hospices, and that ú100 million could thus be raised each year; and therefore urges the Government to consult with these and other charities before reaching any decision which might impact on the use of Pronto as a tool for charitable giving.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 13, Conservative 3.
