HILL LIVESTOCK COMPENSATORY ALLOWANCES

Early day motion 398, tabled 5 November 1997 by Charles Kennedy (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 26 members.

That this House expresses deep concern that the level of hill livestock compensatory allowance payments has been decided upon by Her Majesty's Government before the review set up to re-examine the payments has been able to report its findings; recognises the vital importance of these payments in ensuring that environmentally-friendly farming continues in the less favoured areas; and calls upon the Government to reconsider the decision to freeze these payments at the 1996 level.
